Pumpkins, terrariums, foraging and Christmas creativity are coming to the Community Garden.
When I first started dreaming about the Comunity Garden, I knew I wanted it to be about so much more that simply growing Fruit vegatables and flowers, I wanted to create a space that people could use.
A place where our community could come together, where I could share some of the creative workshops I love teaching, pass on some of the skills I’ve learnt over the years and show people just how much we can create using nature, foraged finds and things we already have around us.
Most importantly, I wanted it to be somewhere you could come and forget about the world for a little while and let creativity take over.
There is something rather magical about making things with your hands. You stop thinking about the emails you haven’t answered, the jobs you haven’t done and the ever growing to do list. You chat. You laugh. You learn something new. And quite often you arrive not knowing anyone and leave having made a new friend.
That is exactly what I hoped the Community Garden would become.
And now our wonderfully rustic polytunnel is becoming a little creative hub of its own, I couldn’t be happier to share some of the workshops we have coming up.
Even better, we’re right on the doorstep of The Cherry Tree, so when the creating is over you don’t necessarily have to go home! Book a table, have some lunch, enjoy a glass of something and turn your workshop into a proper day out.
Pumpkin Carving at the Community Garden 🎃
It wouldn’t be autumn without pumpkins, and I’m really looking forward to getting together in the polytunnel for some good old fashioned pumpkin carving.
Come and choose your pumpkin, get creative and transform it into something fabulous ready for Halloween. I’ll be on hand with ideas, tips and plenty of encouragement, whether you’re going for something spooky, funny, stylish or completely bonkers!
It’s all about having fun, getting creative and enjoying the season together. And the best bit? All the mess stays at the Community Garden rather than ending up all over your kitchen table!
Everything you need will be provided, including your pumpkin, so just come along ready to carve.
Forage & Photography 📷🌿
I’m also really excited that the garden is being used by other creatives, because that was always part of the dream too.
On Thursday 22 October, Chloe Lodge Photography is hosting Forage & Photography at the Cherry Tree Inn Kitchen Garden.
It’s a lovely morning combining nature, foraging and photography, with a focus on getting more creative with your phone photography. You’ll also be creating with some of the beautiful natural materials gathered along the way.
It feels like such a perfect fit for the garden and exactly the sort of experience I hoped this space would encourage.
Create Your Own Sealed Terrarium 🌿
I absolutely love these.
Come and learn how to create your own beautiful miniature world under glass. I’ll show you how to build the different layers, choose and position your plants and create the perfect environment for your sealed terrarium to thrive.
Once sealed, your terrarium creates its own little ecosystem, recycling moisture inside the glass, which means it needs virtually no watering. So even if you’re somebody who usually looks at a houseplant and it dies, this could be the one for you!
You’ll leave with a gorgeous glass terrarium to style in your home, or perhaps give to someone as a really special handmade Christmas present.
Everything you need is included, so just turn up, get your hands dirty and enjoy a lovely morning in the polytunnel.
Create Your Own Christmas Table Centrepiece 🎄
This one starts with something you probably wouldn’t expect...
A swim noodle. Yes, really!
I’ll show you how to turn a humble swim noodle into a gorgeous Christmas centrepiece using seasonal foliage, foraged treasures, natural decorations, cinnamon sticks, candles and a few clever floristry tricks.
It’s a brilliant example of what I love most: taking something inexpensive that might otherwise be thrown away, adding things we can forage and find in nature and turning it into something beautiful.
You’ll go home with a fabulous centrepiece ready to take pride of place on your Christmas table, sideboard or entrance table.
It’s also the perfect antidote to that slightly bonkers run up to Christmas. Put down the shopping list, forget the wrapping for a couple of hours and come and have some creative downtime instead.
Bring your friends, come with your mum or daughter, or simply come on your own. You absolutely don’t need to be “creative” either. I’ll show you exactly what to do.

Come on your own or bring someone with you. Get creative, get your hands dirty, have a chat, meet some new people and then wander over to The Cherry Tree afterwards for lunch or a drink.
Because this is exactly what I wanted this garden to be about.
Growing things, creating things and, most importantly, bringing people together.
